Two Helpful Moving Resources

 |
Be Completely Packed BEFORE Your Movers Arrive (Do not pack the day of your move.)
In preparing for your moving day, it is very important that you are completely packed BEFORE your movers arrive. Our movers are all trained professionals who are fast and efficient, and if you are not prepared, we either will not be able to move you that day, and/or your move will require more time and will cost you more money. By following these recommendations, you will be amazed at how effectively and how quickly your movers are. This will save you a lot of money and make your move EASY!
What Does Being Completely Packed Mean? |
#2 |
 |
Put any loose items that you want to be moved inside of moving boxes. There should be no loose items laying on the floor and/or on top of furniture.
While you are packing, walk around your house and remove any loose item from the floor or on furniture, and place inside of a moving box. What may seem like only a few loose around on the floor or on furniture, can significantly reduce the speed in which your movers are able to operate. This is another great way to save money on your move. |

Before your movers arrive, close and tape all moving boxes.
Most people do not know, that professional movers can not move "open boxes." The reason is "open boxes" can not be stacked in the truck and/or dolly in a protected way, as there is a higher risk of damage with items falling out of an open box. Therefore, please close and tape all your boxes shut before your movers arrive. This could literally save you 1-2 hours on the cost of your move if your movers don't have to wait for you to tape boxes shut. |
#4 |
|
Remove all of your belongings from the drawers of any dresser and/or nightstand.
Please remove all items from inside of your dressers and/or any piece of furniture that has shelves. This will drastically increase the speed of your move. Movers can not move furniture that still has your belongings inside of it for a number of different reasons.

Purchase only 2-3 different sizes of moving boxes, and use professional quality moving boxes that are the same size.
.
(Standard All Purpose moving boxes 1.5 and 3.0 Kitchen moving boxes are the best sizes to use)
By using the same size box, your movers will be able to stack more boxes on top of each other in the dolly, thereby making fewer trips from your home to the truck. The savings will almost always pay for the cost of the moving boxes in almost every case.
Also, please note that smaller moving boxes are better to protect your valuables, then larger boxes are. Only use larger moving boxes when you have light items like pillows. If boxes are too heavy they can not be carried and they will not support your belongings.

Unplug All Electronics that Are being Moved
Please unplug televisions, radios, stereos AND remove from the stand they are in. Place any loose items such as CDs, videos and electronics inside of boxes.
Movers are not able to move furniture that is plugged in or still in the stands. If they need to unplug your belongings you will quickly add time to the cost of your move. |

Label All of your Boxes on the TOP and on the Side of the Moving Box.
When labeling, indicate two pieces of information:
1. What Room the Moving Box should be moved into
&
2. What is inside of the box-using one word.
PLACE LABEL on..........
TOP OF THE BOX
AN
THE SIDE OF THE BOX.
If you only put labeling on the top of the box, then when the boxes are stacked the movers have to lift up each box to see where it goes. This takes unecessary time.
Also, if the movers know what room you want your boxes moved into, this will save you time and money. For it takes a long time if need to verbally tell your mover where each box should be placed.
Label each box as to what room you want the box placed in
Be specific. Master bedroom versus bedroom.
- Note what is inside the box (Clothes)
This helps our movers make decisions when they stack the boxes.
- If it is fragile, state FRAGILE and include what is in the box.

Fill Your Moving Boxes to The Top & use Crumpled Paper to Fill in All Gaps
(THIS HELPS PROTECT YOUR BELONGINGS)
Moving boxes are much stronger when they are filled completely. Partially filled boxes can easily compress when other boxes are stacked on top, so it is better to completely fill your boxes before you tape them shut. This is the #1 most important packing tip to help protect your valuables. Movers can stack boxes more effectively when filled also.
.
Note: The picture shows a box of dishes, each wrapped in packing paper. Notice the gap at the top of the box? Crumpled newspaper should STILL be used to fill in the top of the box before it is taped for maximum protection. |

Moving Refrigerators
If you moving a refrigerator, please defrost it the day before your move and thoroughly dry your refrigerator before moving. This is very important, or water will spill all over. The doors of your refridgerator should be left open several hours to air after defrosting. All pans, trays, crispers, shelves or removable parts should be removed and wrapped individually. Have your refrigerator serviced too before moving day The motor may have to be bolted down before moving. Do not plug it in at the new home until it has been unbolted.
Moving Freezers-How to Prepare
Drain your freezer the day before moving so water doesn't spill everywhere.
Freezer appliances must be completely defrosted one or two days prior to moving. They should be dried and aired to avoid musty odor. Safety of contents cannot be guaranteed, so it is best to empty your freezer and plan a meal that will use up perishable contents. Check with your service man to be sure the motor is bolted, if necessary. Remove any loose items.
Washers-How to Prepare
Disconnect and unplug all the cords before the movers arrive. Drain all the hoses and dry out. Check with your manufactures guidelines to see
Dryer-How to Prepare
If you are moving a gas dryer, the appliance should be disconnected and the gas line capped off by a professional technician. Movers are not qualified to perform this service.
